(June 18-24, 2016)

From June 18 to 24, International Urban Media Design Workshop 2016 (IUMDW2016) was successfully held by Academy of Arts & Design, Tsinghua University, and College of Fine Arts, Seoul National University. The workshop had 11 participants from Seoul National University and 7 from College of Fine Arts, University of South Dakota.

This event had been held in Korea three times, involving participants from Tsinghua, Parsons, Chiba University, Seoul National University, and University of South Dakota and Chiba University. The event centered around display of teaching results, especially student works of urban media and information interactive design, supplemented by forums and workshops leading participants to explore innovative approaches to constructing cities. In this year’s workshop, teachers and students from South Korea, the U.S. and China were offered a great variety of activities, including fieldwork, seminars and designing.

They found that cross-cultural communication was very important, learned about cities’ development and the role of design thinking in tackling problems facing cities. The workshop would continue in the next year with more colleges around the world joining us.
